Lucky Finn Cafe – Hanover, MA

Visited April 26, 2026

Lucky Finn Café swam its way to Hanover, MA! I’d visited their Front St. location in Scituate, MA in the past and enjoyed their coffee, so I stopped in to check out their newest location at the Merchant Row Shopping Plaza located at 2103 Washington Street in Hanover.

The series of doors in the main café intrigued me. Upon closer inspection, I found that they were offices, presumably for rent. I think this concept is brilliant, especially for anxious and sensory sensitive individuals like myself who enjoy working in coffee shops, but feel overwhelmed by the bustling environment.

I’ve never seen individual offices like this at a coffee shop!

The Lucky Finn has eight offices for rent. Six are identical, single occupancy rooms with a chair, a small stool, a coat hook, outlets, a desk lamp and wifi. One room is a little bigger and the website reports that it’s ADA Accessible. It has two chairs instead of one. There is also a conference room for rent featuring a circular table that seats four and a TV on the wall for screen sharing.

Offices can be booked on Lucky Finn’s website by selecting a room, date, and time block. You can book the office for an entire day from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.($50), or a 4 hour block with an arrival time between 6:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.($35). The conference room is for rent in roughly two and a half hour time blocks of 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., or 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for $50. An all day rental is also available for $125.

You can book a room on the Lucky Finn website, which I found to be a convenient and user friendly process.

I booked Room 8 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and showed up at 12:45 p.m. I wanted to only book a space for 1 or 2 hours, so I was a little surprised to learn that you can only book the offices in 4 hour blocks.

When I got to the coffee shop, there was a small crowd of people around the pick up area making it tough to squeeze by to get to the ordering station. Once I got there though, I waited less than a minute before the cashier called me up.

After ordering a small iced Irish Creme latte with whole milk, decaf to avoid caffeine induced anxiety (iykyk), and a chocolate scone, I told the cashier that I had a room reservation. She grabbed my scone and unlocked my room for me. I chose Room 8 because it’s further away from the other rooms and the main café. It’s at the beginning of the hallway that leads to the restrooms.

The cashier let me know I could get settled then come out to pick up my coffee. The office doors lock automatically when they are closed, so she advised that I keep it open when I grab my coffee or use the bathroom, but close it if I need to step away for a longer period at which point I could ask an employee to open it again.

Immediately upon entering the room, I was overwhelmed by the smell of fresh paint or varnish. I should preface this review by saying that I am very sensitive to smells. If something smells too strong it can set off my anxiety.

The room looks as pictured online with a desk on the wall, a single chair, a stool, an outlet, a coat hook (not pictured) and a desktop light. I set up my laptop and notebook and got my headphones out. The little stool came in handy for easily reaching my bag while working. There is a coat hook behind the door where I hung my coat so it was out of the way.

The wifi password is on the wall under the outlet. It’s different for each office because they all have their own wifi network.

This coffee shop is consistently busy so it was quite noisy. The music is turned up pretty loud as well. When the door to the office is open, the noise is noticeable. It may be bothersome to those who are sensitive to noise or find it hard to concentrate when there is a lot going on in the background. However, with the door shut the noise reduces somewhat. Not enough to be significantly muffled, but its probably reduced by 40%. I was able to tune out the noise by putting my headphones on. If you want to hear the noise difference, check out the YouTube video I posted here!

Unfortunately, after about 5 minutes of the door being closed, the smell of the paint or varnish started to bother me. I had to open the door to ventilate the room because as I worked I started to get a headache. Opening the door helped a little bit, but the noise of the coffee shop adding onto the strong smell caused my anxiety levels to raise a bit higher than I was comfortable with. I ended up leaving after about half an hour.

The smell is in no way the fault of the Lucky Finn. This is a fairly new building, so the building materials still smell quite strong and the offices are a small space without windows, meaning poor air flow. Over time, the smell will likely fade.

Although the smell caused me to leave earlier than I would have liked, I think the private offices are a brilliant concept. With the door shut, the loud coffee shop environment is less overwhelming and its nice to have somewhere other than my home office to work.

In addition to the Hanover location, Lucky Finn has two Scituate cafès. One is located at 206 Front Street and the other at 52 New Driftway. The Driftway location has two rental offices that I plan to check out. I’m hoping that location’s offices won’t smell as strong.

As for the food and drink, I would absolutely come back! The pricing is on par with Starbucks, but the value is higher. For the scone and the small iced latte my total was $9.86. The coffee was $5.50 of that and it was larger than a Starbucks tall (and better tasting😋)!

Next time I come, I plan to sit outside at the seating area to enjoy my coffee. There’s a square, low table with four Adirondack chairs surrounding it immediately out front of the café. There are more chairs next to the entrance doors in groups of two with a small table for each pair as well.

This location also has an order ahead drive thru window, so if you are in a hurry, or would rather avoid the bustling café environment, you can order your items on the Lucky Finn website or app and pick them up in the drive thru.

Now it’s time for the ratings and categories portion of the review! 👏

Sensory and Accessibility Aspects

Noise 2/5 ⭐️⭐️

The main café is very loud because of how busy it is. The music is at a moderate to high volume and sounds louder than just background noise. It was tough to hear the cashier when I ordered and people in the cafè were speaking loudly to each other. Although closing the door of the office muffled the sound, it was still a bit too loud for me to focus without headphones.

Crowds 3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

There was a steady flow of people for the entire time I was there. I left the office a couple of times to film the café area (footage on YouTube!) and to get some napkins and found myself having to squeeze by people waiting in the pick up area near the front door. Also, every seat was taken in the main cafè. However, the office (and the outdoor seating area) is a nice reprieve from the amount of people.

Smells 1/5 ⭐️

Since I came specifically to review the experience of the offices, I had to give this category a one star. The smell of the fresh paint or varnish was so strong that I ended up leaving. The cafè itself had a slight “new construction” scent, but it was not as overwhelming, or really all that noticeable, when comparing it to the office.

Lighting 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I felt the café’s overall lighting was exceptional. There are an abundance of windows allowing natural light to serve as the primary lighting source of the cafè. There are warm lighting fixtures hung throughout, which give off a cozy glow.

The hallway leading to the bathroom had cool, white LED lights, which were pretty harsh, but this was only a small area of the cafè.

The lighting in the office was warm from overhead, but I do wish they used a warm light for the desk lamp as well. It was a cool, white LED.

Temperature 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was comfortable through the entire visit! It was comfortable enough that I removed my jacket without feeling chilly. I noticed that the thermostat was set to 70°F.

Spots for Decompressing 3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The office is a great place to rent to decompress. If you don’t rent an office though, it would definitely be tough to find a quiet spot in the café. The bathroom is a single stall, so in a pinch you could escape there, but the music and conversations are still pretty noisy. The best place to decompress would be the amazing outdoor seating!

Accessibility 3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The pickup area and main café seating would be tough to navigate on a mobility scooter. If people made room for the scooter to pass by, it would be possible, but the corners are still a bit tight.

There is an ADA Accessible office to rent, which is a great offering! There are also two handicap accessible parking spots up front and a flat entrance into the building.

The bathroom is somewhat accessible (see below for restroom rundown!) with grab bars and an automatic sink.

If a disabled individual does not want to navigate the inside of the café, I recommend they order ahead and use the order ahead drive-thru to pick up their order.

Restroom Rundown 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love a single room bathroom with an occupancy indicator! The two bathrooms are clean and spacious. They are located towards the back of the café and down a hallway.

The toilet area includes grab bars for accessibility and an automatic flushing toilet. The sink is also automatic, but the paper towel and soap dispensers are not, which could make them inaccessible for some. The trash can is operated by a foot pedal, meaning those on scooters or wheelchairs can’t open it. There is also no automatic door button. The door has a knob that could be tough to open for disabled individuals while they also manuever their scooter or wheelchair into the bathroom.

General Review-y Aspects

Pricing 3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The food and drink pricing is fair, but I am disappointed by the cost of the room rental. The per hour cost of $9.28 (including tax) is reasonable, but the fact that you can only book in 5 hour blocks costing $37.10 (including tax) is a bummer since no matter how long you stay you still have to pay the full price.

Atmosphere 3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I think whether you like the atmosphere or not depends on your comfort with noise level.

It’s an upscale, trendy coffee shop, and it feels like a coffee shop that you’d find in Boston. They did an outstanding job with decorating the space to give it a modern feel. The bright, natural lighting adds to the upscale look as well, and I love the wood element under the bakery counter as it mixes nautical with sleek vibes.

However, like any trendy, city coffee shop, the music is loud, which drives conversations louder and, for me personally, dampens the overall atmosphere.

Customer Service 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The cashier who served me was friendly and attentive. She quickly got me the scone I ordered and unlocked the office door. She happily answered my questions about the office and made me feel welcome.

I am also very impressed by the speed in which my latte came out. Seeing how busy the café was, I thought I’d be waiting for a while, but it was ready in less than three minutes.

Location/Parking 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lucky Finn is located at Merchants Row Shopping Plaza in Hanover. The location is close to Rte 3 and is off of the very busy Rte 53. While it’s a bustling area, there are plenty of parking spaces available wrapped around Lucky Finn or in the adjoining parking lots. There are also two ways you can enter/exit the shopping plaza, so it’s somewhat easy to get to.

Recommendations for Visiting

  • If you feel overwhelmed by the bustling café environment, skip going inside and order ahead on the Lucky Finn website or app then pick up your order using the Order Ahead Drive Thru.
  • If you rent an office space and the smell bugs you, try opening the door.
  • I would recommend bringing headphones or earplugs if you are sensitive to high noise levels.
  • I highly recommend the outdoor seating! It would be a great place to enjoy your coffee, a book and the sun, or sit and chat with friends!

Hey, I’m going to Lucky Finn Cafè in Hanover! Want to come?

It depends on what we’re doing!

I would definitely return to get coffee and relax on the outdoor seating, but I won’t rent a room to work in again until the building has been around for a few years and the “new” smell wears off.

That does it for my review on Lucky Finn in Hanover! I enjoyed my latte and look forward to checking out their Scituate office location!
